Project Shoestring is an organization made up of ordinary people – friends, relatives, neighbors, from a number of different countries – dedicated to the proposition that everyone can get involved in helping the less fortunate. The people of Project Shoestring believe that no action is too small, no contribution in time, money or goods too insignificant, to make this world a better and more equitable place.

Founded in 2007, Project Shoestring is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit grassroots organization that had as its original idea the collecting of the still functional but discarded artifacts of wasteful consumer society and delivering them to impoverished peoples in underdeveloped societies, thus improving the lives of the most disadvantaged at minimal expense.
From this original mission, the organization has expanded its horizons to include efforts to promote quality education for the poor in the less developed world and the provision of basic services and training to the marginalized in both the developed and less developed worlds. Project Shoestring is currently active in building its programs in Mexico, India and the USA.
